Critters; 1 & 2, They Want Your Food

"We're here for the Crites."

Critters

They're small, sharp like porcupines & they roll like hedgehogs. The only difference between these Critters & the ones you see strolling around your back yard? They're from outer space & they are hungry!! Small but deadly, these space fairing fugitives could care less if they devour your entire planet. They have no respect for life, good ol' barn sex (what?) and local cuisine at the bowling ally. Get in their way & they'll chew you up & spit you out; literally.

What can I say, cute angry foul mouthed Crites just give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Growing up, this was one of the few series I watched regularly. I couldn't help myself. The entire series is fun & entertaining & comes full circle unlike other horror series. They don't go out of their way to be taken seriously but after decades of watching films you realize that a golden team put this wonderful series together. Staring the always amazing Dee Wallace, Scott Grimes & Billy Zane (just to name a few) this rich cast of talent brings you into their lives, their homes & their fears as they are terrorized (and devoured) by the bastard Crites. Billy Green Bush's character Jay Brown probably gets the most chomps from the hungry buggars but like a true champ (and dedicated actor) he keeps on fighting back.

In Critters II

Scott Grimes (as Brad Brown) returns to his home town where him & his family managed to survive the first Crites attack only to find out they didn't send them all packing to hell in a Molotov fire ball. With the return of Ugh & Charlie (who battled the Critters in the first movie), Brad knows they have to get them all this time or it wont be the last they see of the Crites.

And boy do they! Rolling massive balls of Critters all fused together eating everything in site, sexy space hunters wrapped in barely there leather carrying guns the size of Terrence Mann's (Ugh) thighs & one crotchety Sherrif (make that two) that just want to get the hell out of dodge, er - Grovers Bend. The comedy as well as the action & the Crites themselves just keeps rolling & before you know it the film is over & you're heading back to the main menu to start it all over again. I wont deny one of my favorite scenes is where Ugh, the faceless shape-shifting bounty hunter transforms into Roxanne Kernohan aka Lee. Who doesn't love a buxom beauty packing heat & not much else? Like the first film, Critters II rocks with another powerful cast & wonderful writing, making this just another great step in the four movie series.

IF you have never seen either of these movies, then shame on you! Get out there, find them & indulge yourself. You wont be disappointed.

So, Until my next post,

sit back, relax & don't forget to scream!
